What I Loved In January

The first month of 2019 just ended and I'm stoked to share with you all the things I loved this month – and will probably still love in the future. Including books, films, music, activities and new skincare and make-up I've been trying out... You will see that there's a lot of that, simply because this winter weather has really been harsh on my skin and I'm recovering from allergic reactions. I'm slowly getting better, though, things are always looking up. Thanks again for so many of you on Instagram who helped me find these absolute life-savers.



New skincare products

Note: I'm in fact using all of these every day! Worked wonders for me this winter.
  • Lancôme Hydra Zen Anti-Stress cream: anti-stress moisturiser. Easily absorbed, really soothes my skin when it gets irritated. Smells sooo lovely, too. 
  • Lancôme Crème Mousse-Confort: a comforting creamy foam cleanser for dry skin. Smells like rose and leaves my skin feeling refreshed and clean. As it should. 
  • La Roche-Posay Contour Yeux Eye cream: for really sensitive eye area and dry eyelids! Was a life-saver for me when I got an allergic reaction and had super dry eye spots around the eye. 
  • Daytox Hydrating H Serum: is said to even out your skin tone and complexion and prevents skin aging. I love using this serum, feels great on my skin indeed. 
  • Avène Skin recovery cream: amazing for hypersensitive and irritated skin. Saved me in this winter, honestly! I'm so happy this was recommended to me. 

New Make-up

I don't really know where the need to switch it up came from but I guess I was on a roll... Worth it, though.


Books

This month I only got to dive into one book, which is Can You Keep A Secret? by Sophie Kinsella and I'm pretty much finished it in two day. I mostly get to read it when I'm on the go or in waiting rooms or when I take breaks from working on my bachelor thesis. I've read another book by Kinsella before and I absolutely loved it because it was romantic, witty and hilarious. This one is just the same! It's made me laugh out loud on the tram multiple times and is addictive. Her books are definitely pick-me-ups and I'm totally here for it in this dark, sleepy time of the year.

What's this one about?
Meet Emma Corrigan, a young woman with a huge heart, an irrepressible spirit, and a few little secrets: Secrets she wouldn't share with anyone in the world, about her family and her work place and her boyfriend. Until she spills them all to a handsome stranger on a plane. At least, she thought he was a stranger... Until Emma comes face-to-face with Jack Harper, the company's elusive CEO, a man who now knows every single humiliating detail about her...

Film: The Host (Korean horror)

In The Host, a monster emerges from Seoul's Han River and focuses its attention on attacking people. One victim's loving family does what it can to rescue her from its clutches.
Really enjoyed this horror film. I'm a sucker for any Korean film in any genre, to be honest. Really liked this because of the way the story evolved, the cast acted and also how societal norms and bureaucracy was described. All in all, I think this film was really well done and had me on the edge of my seat, as it should.

Activities

I finally got back into reading, even if that means that I will have to read on the screen most of the times because I don't always get to carry a book with me. So for now, it's iBooks and the Kindle app for me. But at least I get to read and indulge in fantasies to escape reality now and then...

More illustrations are piling up on my iPad and I've been loving getting back into drawing and illustrating some more. I've been experimenting with my handwriting, too, as well as all the brushes and tools on ProCreate to do what I like to do. But I'm still learning!

After a few rough weeks of being exhausted and constantly on edge mentally, my friends advised me to try out breathing exercises and meditation. Even though I always thought meditation wasn't for me, I decided to download Headspace to try it out. And soon enough, I found that it helped me – to be more mindful, eat more mindfully and fall asleep with a relaxed mind. I'm still trying out all the little features on the app and finding what will help me.
